Frequently Asked Questions
What Does OPEN Do?
OPEN plays a positive role in helping potential employers and members become aware of what each
offers and has available.
OPEN conducts extensive job search training workshops that prepare unemployed professionals for
the task of finding their next career opportunity.
OPEN provides networking opportunities for our members and maintains ties with other networking
groups that cater to professionals.
As a chapter of Experience Unlimited, OPEN also receives job announcements from private industry,
government agencies, utilities, universities and school districts.
In addition, OPEN makes direct, personal contact with local employers to develop relationships,
offer our services, and solicit job postings. We maintain a database of these employers for use by our
members to enhance their job search efforts.
How Do I Become a Member?
If you decide to join, you will attend a five-day workshop (½ days) designed
to help you define your skills, identify your needs, and polish your job search
techniques with the latest information about job search. After completion of the
workshop, you will select or be assigned to one of the committees that provide
the services of OPEN on a continuing basis.
How Much does it Cost?
OPEN is sponsored by the California Employment Development Department (EDD). NO FEE is charged to
either employer or job seeker for the services OPEN offers. Funding comes from your state tax dollars.
As a Member, What Are My Responsibilities?
OPEN offers great opportunities to unemployed and under-employed professionals, but along with these
opportunities comes responsibility. Each member is expected to participate in OPEN's ongoing programs,
which are designed to enhance employment possibilities. Members are also expected to contribute 16 hours minimum per month to committee work and to attend a general meeting for networking purposes each Friday.
Why Join?
All services provided by OPEN are performed by volunteers, professionals like yourself. By joining our
group you are helping to continue our efforts in training professionals for job search and matching our candidates
with quality job opportunities. Our members consider this a small price to pay for the benefits they receive. The
cumulative effect of our members' efforts results in achievement of OPEN's goal:
Satisfactory employment for every member!
